"I know what a difficult time this is for everyone connected with schools, from pupils and teachers to parents and other staff. In this strange COVID-19 year, it is perhaps worth reminding ourselves why school is so important. It’s a place where, as a pupil, we prepare for life beyond the family, where we learn, build skills, make friends, and discover from our teachers and others the many wonders of our lives. What does make the world go round? How do we really put food on the table? Where do we come from? Why are there so many different languages, and how can I learn some of them? And as a teacher, it gives us the platform to communicate our knowledge, and inspire the next generation to be even better than the last. For me, education is the most precious gift we pass to our children, a gift that lasts a lifetime. So despite these difficult and confusing times, I am delighted that the Cambridge International School here in Bratislava continues to offer the best of a British style of education, a place to learn, to teach, and to make friends. I hope that many of you will take your skills you have learned here to go on and do great things. As British Ambassador here in Bratislava, I would be delighted if you go on to build further links with the United Kingdom. And whatever your background, and wherever you go on to, I encourage you to make the best of your time at CIS."
