Support & Extension
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Every child deserves to thrive, and we believe language should never be a barrier to learning. Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program supports students from Year 4 to Year 11, helping them to fully access the curriculum across all four key skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Our experienced teachers adapt lessons to meet each student’s individual needs. Students learn alongside their peers in mainstream classes, while also benefiting from targeted EAL lessons in place of Modern Foreign Languages.
Small group teaching, personalised support, and regular progress assessments ensure that each student continues to build confidence and develop their English throughout the year. In addition, our staff receive regular English language training, ensuring they are fully equipped to support EAL learners effectively.
With the right balance of challenge and encouragement, every learner is supported to succeed, whatever their starting point.
Special Educational Needs (SEN)
At CIS, we believe that school is not only about learning new information, but also about growing in confidence, building relationships, and feeling safe, valued, and included.
The Special Educational Needs (SEN) Team provides targeted support to students with Special educational needs to help them access the curriculum and reach their individual potential. We offer a combination of one-to-one, small group, and in-class support, focusing on developing essential skills such as attention, communication, literacy, numeracy, social understanding, and emotional regulation.
Our aim is to ensure that every student feels supported, understood, and empowered to succeed. We work closely with students, teachers, parents, and external professionals to create personalised support plans that promote both academic progress and wellbeing.
As a Cambridge International School, CIS utilises a range of standardised English assessments as part of our identification, monitoring, and review processes. These assessments inform orientation diagnostic procedures and support decisions regarding appropriate access arrangements for students who meet the established criteria, ensuring that all learners are able to demonstrate their knowledge and skills under fair and supportive conditions.
The SEN Team is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment in which children and young people with special educational needs are supported to thrive and to make the most of their school experience.
Wellbeing
Our Wellbeing Coach combines professionalism with kindness to prioritise the emotional and mental health of every student. Backed by extensive training in psychology, mediation, supervision, and psychotherapy, she provides a secure environment for students to feel truly supported.
In personalised one-to-one sessions, students develop the tools to regulate emotions, navigate daily challenges, and grow in resilience and confidence. By collaborating with both teachers and families, our coach ensures a holistic approach to each child’s development.
We foster an open culture where students feel safe asking for support. This proactive guidance empowers them with healthy coping strategies, ensuring they flourish in all areas of school life.
