Darina studied Pedagogy and Nursing Care at the Comenius University in Bratislava and Journalism at the Robert Schumann Institute in Brussels. She has also studied several languages at various language schools around the world and holds a variety of diplomas in interpreting and translation for English, French, and German. She has worked for the BBC World Service as a radio producer for the Slovak Section in Bush House in London and later as a correspondent in Brussels. She has also worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a desk officer for the UK. Darina has also worked for two international schools in Bratislava and Leaf Academy where she taught German, French, English, and Slovak to foreign students. She has lived in several countries, notably in the UK, Belgium, North Macedonia, and Georgia. She is still a passionate traveller and an avid book reader, being a member of the French Book Club in Bratislava. Darina likes hiking, swimming, cycling, and canoeing as leisure activities. She has three adopted children and has worked voluntarily for several organisations helping children who have suffered trauma in their lives. She also helped to establish a non-governmental organisation Welcome to Macedonia in Skopje.
