Damian Cornelius
Prior to successfully retraining as a secondary school teacher of Business Studies in 1995 at Sheffield Hallam University, Damian gained 3 years of valuable industrial experience in the UK Civil Service where he was involved with the procurement, installation and testing of computer hardware in government offices throughout the UK.
Damian spent 15 years teaching in an all-girls secondary school in north London, 4 of those years as Subject Leader. Having decided to pursue his career in the international sector in 2017, Damian spent three years in an international school in Kiev, Ukraine, teaching IGCSE Business Studies, the IB Business Diploma and IGCSE Global Perspectives followed by 3 years teaching IGCSE and A-Level Business Studies in an international school in beautiful peninsular Malaysia. In his most recent international school in Brazil, he was solely responsible for the planning, delivery and assessment of IGCSE Business Studies and the IB Business Diploma.
Damian seeks to establish and nurture external partnerships with industry because without such partnerships, the pupils’ work-related educational experiences are diminished and a valuable opportunity to develop life skills appropriate to the workplace of the future is lost. He strives to embed an enterprising teaching ethos not just within his own subject area, but across the whole school curriculum. He aims to put the classroom learning of his pupils into real-life, community-based contexts to which they can readily and easily relate.
Away from the classroom, Damian is interested in soccer and table-tennis and all things related to Africa, following a period of employment in Botswana in the late 1990’s. Most of all, he loves ‘getting lost’ in the beautiful natural scenery of County Donegal whenever he gets the chance to catch up with friends and siblings back in his home city of Derry, Ireland.
