
Gareth Edward Cunliffe
Teacher of History / Head of Humanities
Gareth graduated from Lancaster University in the United Kingdom with a degree in History. Upon finishing his degree, he completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education with History Specialism at the University of Central Lancashire and further completed a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with the Open University, and is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Psychology with the same university.
Gareth taught in the UK and in China, focusing on supporting gifted and talented learners in addition to supporting learners of English as an additional language. Gareth’s students have been cited in the examiner’s report in IGCSE Global Perspectives in 2018 because their coursework ‘was among the best that we received’. Additionally, Gareth was awarded an ‘Outstanding Teacher Certificate’ at Shenzhen College of International Education in 2023, was nominated for the Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Award in 2024. One of his students achieved the ‘Top in China’ award for IGCSE Global Perspectives. Along teaching, Gareth also mentors teachers who are studying for various qualifications and is a specialist in the leadership of staff development. Finally, Gareth is a member of organizations dedicated to goals such as improving leadership in international education.
In his personal life Gareth is reasonably proficient in Mandarin Chinese and is learning Portuguese. He enjoys going to the gym, painting, and tabletop gaming.
