Svetlana studied the Slovak Language and Literature and English Language and Literature Teaching Program at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. During her studies she also did a six-month study abroad programme in Ljubljana.

After leaving university, she spent a year working and living in England. When she returned to Slovakia, she got a job as an assistant to the ambassador at the Embassy of Slovenia in Bratislava. From 2012 to 2024, she worked at the Department of Slavic Studies, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University, first as a doctoral student, and after defending her dissertation as an assistant professor. She taught courses focused on the Slovenian language and culture, and her research and scientific work mainly dealt with Slovak and Slovenian phraseology and Slovak-Slovenian cultural relations. In 2025 she completed the course Teacher of Slovak as a Foreign Language organized by the Studia Academica Slovaca centre at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University.

She likes spending her leisure time with her family and friends, enjoys walks in the country, trips and travelling, and is interested in theatre, film, music and fine arts. She always has at least one good book to read, and she is also active in the field of literature as a translator from Slovene.
